The Business Qualification for Pilots
The BSc (Hons) in Airline Transport Operations by distance learning is a two year, part-time course which is run in conjunction with Waterford Institute of Technology (WIT). The course is designed to develop comprehensive business knowledge and skills for qualified commercial pilots. The purpose of the qualification is to help professional pilots further develop a career in senior management within the aviation industry.
Commercial pilots who hold a current Joint Aviation Authority (JAA) Airline Transport Pilot's Licence (ATPL), frozen or unfrozen, and who have successfully completed a Multi-Crew Cooperation Course (MC ) will receive over 50% credit towards the BS c (Hons) Degree in Airline Transport Operations.

The addition of an honours degree to a professional pilot's licence enhances the career prospects of qualified pilots by improving their capacity to operate in a commercial and operations environment within the aviation industry. This may lead to promotion to a senior position in the industry within an accelerated time period either as a senior aviator, operations manager or senior business executive.
The Course Programme
The course is delivered using a blended learning approach with the majority of tuition being delivered by distance learning via the W.I.T. eLearning Management Portal. The eLearning resources programme consists of online forums, reading lists, and quizzes. Students can also directly communicate with lecturers and enter discussions with other students using the portal. Applicants may qualify for exemptions from specific modules based on previous academic qualifications. Induction and outreach courses will be held by lecturers both in Waterford and Dublin.

Modules are offered on a flexible basis so applicants can join and start the course at several points throughout the year. The fee includes the online reading material and course notes but does not cover the cost of books, transport or accommodation that may be involved in attending induction days, exams or outreach lectures.
