Today’s Cadet Programmes

Traditional airline-funded pilot training programmes have been gradually phased out by airlines since the 1990’s due to the growth of budget airlines and the focus on cost throughout the industry. Few, if any, European airlines now offer fully funded sponsored cadet training.

So what are the alternatives today for European pilots looking for airline support to complete their training?

So what are the alternatives today for European pilots looking for airline support to complete their training? The alternative to traditional airline-funded courses is partially sponsored courses commonly known as ‘mentored cadetships’. In this type of cadetship programme, the airline will fund a part of the students training programme and conditionally guarantee a first officer position to the student on course completion provided required standards are achieved in their training and exams. One such partner airline is Flybe; one of Europe’s largest regional airline carriers.

How Cadets are chosen?

Candidates for cadetship are shortlisted for final interview by the sponsoring airline based on their scores in the The Pilot Training College pilot skills and aptitude assessment programme.
