Mentored Cadetship Programs

A mentored cadetship is a program which an airline undertakes with a reputable Flight Training Organisation (FTO) to train a pre selected group of cadets. The difference between a mentored cadetship and a sponsored cadetship or traditional cadetship is that the cadet pays for between 80%-100% of the cost of the training. It is only partially sponsored by the airline which usually means that the airline pays for the MCC/JOC/ Type rating component of the training but bonds the cadet accordingly.
The actual costs of a cadetship program can vary depending on the level of sponsorship that the airline decides it wants to sponsor the individual for. Student pilots can be bonded for this amount also ensuring that there is absolutely no financial risk to the airline.
However in real terms the programme should in fact save the airline significantly and contribute positively to the company’s balance sheet. These savings are accrued in the following manner:
- Less requirement for expensive contract pilots and payment of recruitment fees to agencies
- The cadets can be paid on local pay-scale rates rather than international contract rates
- The cadet having been inducted into the airline at the beginning of the training process has an innate sense of loyalty. Companies operating such schemes have recorded as much as a 35% reduction if pilot attrition e.g. pilots leaving the airline to go and fly for another airline “back home”.
The Pilot Training College has experience of developing Cadet Programs with airlines and trains its cadets to the standards required by the airlines and in accordance with the airline’s standard operating procedures – We train students with the same ethos as each airline
